Brazil Forestry Bill To Allow Carbon Credits From Concessions

The Brazilian Congress has approved a bill allowing companies with forestry concessions to generate carbon credits, in a move seen as a first step towards regulating the country’s voluntary carbon market. The legislation could provide an additional revenue stream for concession owners and may attract more investors. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has 15 days to sign the bill into law or veto it, following a campaign promise to curb deforestation and reverse the policies of his predecessor.
