On 9 December, Bursa Malaysia Bhd launched the country’s first voluntary carbon market (VCM) with the introduction of the Bursa Carbon Exchange (BCX). The first trades will be conducted in March 2023 via an auction which will facilitate price discovery for the new standardised carbon credit products listed on the exchange. Bursa chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift said that the BCX’s rules, auction terms and conditions, online module and operational processes have been finalised.
