Indonesia Set to Release Plans for USD20bn Energy Transition Next Month

Indonesia plans to unveil its USD20bn energy transition investment plan in November, with public feedback expected from November 1 and an official launch around November 20. The Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) project, initially scheduled for a mid-August release, encountered delays due to issues surrounding funding and the extent of Indonesia's reliance on coal for electricity. The JETP sets a carbon emissions cap of 290 million metric tons by 2030 for the country's power sector. Indonesia is working with the International Partners Group (IPG) on funding, including early retirement of coal-fired power plants to make way for renewables. Indonesia aims to reduce its dependence on coal and transition towards cleaner energy sources.
