Japanese Firms Connect to Develop Clean Hydrogen Supply Chain in Malaysia

Japan's Sumitomo Corporation, ENEOS, and Malaysia's SEDC Energy have signed an agreement to establish a clean hydrogen supply chain in Malaysia. The project aims to produce around 90,000 tons of clean hydrogen annually, utilizing renewable energy from hydropower in Sarawak. Sumitomo will lead the Front End Engineering Design, targeting commercial operation by 2030. The hydrogen will be converted to MCH for efficient transportation to Japan. ENEOS will handle the technical aspects of MCH production and maritime transportation, while SEDC will secure electricity and manage the technical side of hydrogen production. The stable output from Sarawak's hydropower plants ensures consistent clean hydrogen production. The project leverages existing infrastructure in Bintulu, Sarawak, including port facilities for MCH exports.
