Japan's 1st CO2 Emissions Exchange Opens

Japan's first carbon dioxide emissions exchange, Carbon Ex, has commenced operations. The exchange is established by SBI Holdings Inc. and CO2 emissions measurement firm Asuene Inc. It facilitates the trading of CO2 emissions credits from private-sector organizations and those certified by the Japanese government under the J-Credit Scheme. Companies can purchase credits to offset their own emissions and contribute to decarbonization efforts. Over 300 participant companies and local governments from Japan and abroad are expected to join the exchange, with over 1.3 million tons of CO2 credits anticipated to be traded.
