UN Supervisory Board For Article 6.4 Approves Carbon Removal Guidance

The UN Article 6.4 Supervisory Board (SB) has approved documents related to carbon removal activities and the requirements for developing and accessing methodologies for the Article 6.4 mechanism. These documents are part of the policies and standards set to establish a global carbon credit market that can issue UN-recognized credits. The recommendations will be sent to the CMA for approval during COP28, and once approved, the Article 6.4 mechanism is expected to become operational. The draft recommendations are considered broad and technology-neutral, with additional work needed to make the guidance operational. The methodologies aim to encourage ambition, be real, transparent, conservative, and credible, contributing to equitable mitigation benefits sharing among participating Parties.
