Zimbabwe Allows Developers to Keep More Profits from Carbon Credits

Zimbabwe has amended its carbon law governing carbon credit projects, allowing developers to keep a greater share of the profits. Initially, developers had to give up 25% of their 70% share of profit, but this requirement has been dropped. However, Zimbabwe will still retain its 30% share and allocate it to state stakeholders. The change is aimed at making the country more competitive in attracting investors. While the 25% share that was originally intended for local communities has been removed, the government will still allocate 30% for its benefit. Zimbabwe is a significant producer of carbon offsets, delivering over 4 million carbon credits in 2022.
